Hotel Review: Hilton Barcelona
On our recent trip to Barcelona, we chose to stay at the Hilton Barcelona. We’re long-standing Hilton fans, they’re family friendly, always have a delicious breakfast spread, and we were using points to cut the costs down on this trip.
Barcelona has two Hilton hotels — Hilton Barcelona and Hilton Diagonal Mar Barcelona — and this review is specifically for Hilton Barcelona. If you’re comparing locations or trying to decide between the two, make sure you’re looking at the right property, as they’re in different areas of the city and offer different experiences.
If you’re traveling as a family and deciding where to stay in Barcelona, this hotel offers a comfortable, convenient home base with spacious rooms and thoughtful amenities.
The Location
Gorgeous view from one of our rooms at the Hilton Barcelona.
Hilton Barcelona’s location is truly one of its biggest assets. It’s wonderfully walkable to many local attractions, restaurants, and shops, which made exploring on foot easy and fun. We found it to be a perfect base for walking around town and just soaking up the Barcelona atmosphere.
It was also very convenient for hopping on the Hop On Hop Off bus (making sightseeing effortless), and the hotel’s position made transfers to both the cruise port and the airport easy to coordinate — which was especially helpful with our multiple stays.
Whether we were heading out for the day or returning back after a long afternoon of exploring, the location always made things simple and stress-free. And if you're a parent traveling with chicken nugget loving kiddos - no fear! Literally right next door is a McDonald’s.
The Room – Family Connecting Room
We booked the family connecting room for both stays, and it genuinely made our long weekend more relaxed and comfortable. Having two adjacent rooms with a door between is ideal for our family travel style - we like our children to have a separate space. They seem to sleep better when they can’t see us at night.
On our first stop here, we were upgraded and the king bedroom was actually the 1 Bedroom King Executive Suite Lounge Access. This room has an entire extra seating area with a couch, chairs and desk for working. This was such a nice space to have to spread out and unpack/repack our luggage for the weekend. (And we had a lot - we were traveling for 30 days!)
When we returned, we had the basic family connecting room which includes one room with a king size bed and one room with two twin beds. Both rooms have their own bathrooms as well. Between sightseeing, naps, and just casually relaxing in the evenings, the layout worked beautifully for us.
My only real nitpick in the room was the desk in the executive suite. It felt a little out of sync with the rest of the room’s design and not quite as sturdy as I would’ve expected. That’s purely a design preference, though — beyond that, I genuinely had no complaints about the room.
Executive Lounge, Fitness Center & Amenities
One of the highlights of our stay was access to the Executive Lounge. Happy hour featured a well-stocked food selection — enough to serve as a light dinner on some evenings — and beverages were available throughout the day. It became a reliable spot to relax, recharge, and grab a quick bite without needing to head back out.
While there is no pool at this property, the hotel does offer a fitness center, which is well equipped for those wanting to stay active during their trip.
Bike rental information at the Hilton Barcelona.
Another nice perk: bikes are available to rent, making it easy to explore the surrounding area at your own pace — a great alternative to walking or public transportation when you want to cover more ground.
Views in the breakfast buffet room at the Hilton Barcelona
Breakfast was excellent — and if you’ve stayed at Hilton hotels before, you know this is often a highlight. The variety was strong, everything felt fresh, and it was a great way to start busy sightseeing days without needing to hunt down food first thing in the morning. There was even a selection of pre-packaged vegan snacks separate from the rest of the food.

Cool view between the buildings of the Hilton Barcelona
Staying twice at the Hilton Barcelona in the same trip says a lot about how well this hotel worked for us. The family connecting room setup made traveling with kids comfortable, the location was convenient for getting around the city and to/from the airport and cruise port, and the Executive Lounge and breakfast added real value to our stay.
