Auckland Airport: Strata Lounge (International Terminal)
If you’re flying internationally from Auckland Airport, having lounge access can make a long travel day significantly more comfortable.
We departed Auckland on our way back to South Korea and had access to the Strata Lounge with our Korean Air business class tickets, but even if you don’t have lounge access through your flight, this lounge is also available through programs like Priority Pass or by purchasing a day pass.
Before our flight, we stopped in to see what the lounge offers and whether it’s worth a visit before an international departure.
Quick Facts
Location: International terminal, after security
Hours: 04:30 am - 12:30 am
Included with: International passengers with eligible business class tickets as well as members of Priority Pass, DragonPass, LoungeKey and Diners Club International. If we hadn’t booked flights with lounge access, we would’ve been able to access Strata Lounge with Priority Pass thanks to our American Express card.
Paid access: yes! Strata Lounge is owned and operated by Auckland Airport and you can book access beforehand online starting at $69NZD.
Families: Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and children under the age of 5 are eligible for free entry.
Compared to many independent lounges, the Strata Lounge feels noticeably more spacious and well-equipped, though it doesn’t have the premium dining or exclusivity you’ll find in airline-operated lounges.
Keep in mind, it’s a 15-20 minute walk to many departure gates, so you’ll need to keep an eye on the time when relaxing in the lounge.
Location
The lounge is located airside in the international terminal at Auckland Airport, after security and passport control. Follow the airport lounge signage and take the escalator to Level 2, where you’ll find the lounge near the other international airline lounges.
Because it’s located after immigration, it’s only accessible to passengers departing on international flights.
Seating & Atmosphere
One of the first things you notice about the Strata Lounge is how spacious the lounge feels. Seating is spread across several areas with a mix of comfortable chairs with views of the shopping in the international terminal, work tables and quiet corners for relaxing.
During our visit around 10:00 AM, the lounge wasn’t particularly crowded, which was a pleasant surprise. In recent years, many lounges that accept Priority Pass have become noticeably busier as lounge access programs have grown more popular. Because of that, it was nice to find plenty of open seating and a relatively calm atmosphere before our flight.
Food & Drinks
The lounge offers a self-serve buffet with both hot and cold options that rotate throughout the day.
During our visit, the spread included hot breakfast dishes (and the famous pancake maker you can find in Hilton’s lately), salads, cheese and snack selections, yogurt parfaits as well as muffins and desserts. I thought it was a fairly large assortment of hot and cold dishes given the time of day. Many lounges start phasing out breakfast items early as they prepare for lunch, but there were still many finger foods to choose from.
There is also a dedicated coffee bar located in the dining area where barista-made drinks are served during limited hours. When the coffee bar isn’t staffed, guests can still make espresso drinks using the self-serve coffee machines in the lounge, which offer options like cappuccinos and lattes.
There’s also a well stocked bar - and if you’re looking for ice for your beverages, this is where you’ll find some.
Amenities: Showers & Bathrooms
The bathrooms in the Strata Lounge are designed as individual shower rooms, making it easy to freshen up before a long flight. Unlike some airport lounges where you need to reserve a time slot or request a key, these shower rooms were available whenever one was open.
One feature that stood out to me was the Dyson Airblade Tap, which combines the faucet and hand dryer in a single unit. It allows you to wash and dry your hands right at the sink — something I hadn’t seen elsewhere in my travels.
Families traveling with kids will appreciate the dedicated children’s playroom, which includes bean bags and a television where kids can relax before boarding.
Overall Thoughts
If you’re departing from Auckland Airport, the Strata Lounge offers a comfortable and convenient place to relax before an international flight. I thought it was comfortable, quiet and it delivered the essentials many travelers are looking for: space, food, drinks, and showers before a long journey.
