Qatar Business Class Review: A350 (non Q-suite) from Doha to Rome

Qatar Business Class Review: A350 (non Q-suite) from Doha to Rome

There’s something dangerous about flying business class for the first time — because once you do, there’s no going back.

Our six-hour flight from Doha to Rome on an Airbus A350 was our first-ever business class experience… and honestly? It was the worst best decision we’ve ever made. Now we only want to fly long-haul in business class. And even without the famed Qsuite configuration, the experience was still exceptional.

Our family on board Qatar Airways in business class.

When people think of Qatar Airways business class, they think of Qsuite — fully enclosed seats with sliding doors and ultra-private suites. Most of their A350 fleet is configured this way, so we were surprised to find ours wasn’t. Whether it was an aircraft swap or simply one of the non-Qsuite A350 layouts, this cabin featured the more traditional reverse herringbone configuration. This happens so regularly with Qatar that it’s called being “Qatar’d” so it wasn’t a total surprise. Our set-up looked more like the 787 configuration.

Was I slightly disappointed not to try Qsuite? Sure.
Was it still a massive upgrade from economy? Absolutely.

“Sleeping” in my lie flat seat on Qatar Airways

The seat converted into a fully lie-flat bed, offered ample storage, and felt spacious overall. My one wish? A bit more “door” coverage or privacy shielding. Even a partial sliding panel would have made the seat feel more contained and less exposed to the aisle.

Still — comfort-wise — it delivered.

Service That Truly Sets the Standard

If there is one area where Qatar Airways stands in a league of its own, it’s service. While we may be new to the business class world, we’re still frequent fliers.

The cabin crew were polished without being stiff, attentive without hovering, and incredibly warm — even toward our children. For families wondering whether business class is kid-friendly: it absolutely can be, and this flight proved it.

The pacing of service felt intentional and refined. Every interaction felt thoughtful and the attention to detail is outstanding.

Amenity Kit: Diptyque Luxury at 35,000 Feet

The amenity kit featured products from Diptyque, which instantly elevated the experience. High-end skincare on a plane feels indulgent in the best way. The packaging is nice quality, not junk that you’ll want to toss when you get home.

It’s small touches like this that reinforce you’re not just flying — you’re experiencing a premium product.

The Bathroom — Shockingly Impressive

Swiss chocolates were a nice treat.

One of the most unexpectedly impressive parts of the flight? The size of the business class lavatory.

Compared to economy, it was significantly larger and far more comfortable to move around in. But what truly stood out was that it was refreshed after every single passenger.

Every. Single. Time.

That level of detail says everything about Qatar’s commitment to presentation and cleanliness.

Dining: Yes, You Can Order an Iced Latte

The food was outstanding — beautifully plated, thoughtfully portioned, and restaurant-quality in flavor.

I would like to bottle up their signature arrival lemon mint drink and take it home.

Iced latte and ginger cookies.

But what really delighted me was that I could order an iced latte on a plane. I read about this beforehand and was ecstatic - why is this not more common? It’s the little things that make me happy.

A Strategic Upgrade — And the Best Comparison Possible

For context, this entire journey was from Seoul to Rome, connecting through Doha. We originally booked economy tickets for the full itinerary but were able to upgrade just the Doha to Rome segment to business class for under $400 per person. That meant we experienced both economy and business class on the same trip and it gave us the best possible comparison.

The most significant differences? The seat and the food selection.

Service, however, was top notch across both cabins. Our children were treated like absolute royalty no matter where we were seated. In economy, they were given small surprise travel packs filled with board games and puzzles, personalized snack boxes, and even brownies decorated with smiley faces. The warmth and attentiveness didn’t change when we moved to business class — it was simply elevated with more space and a refined dining experience.

This is the life I want to live

That consistency speaks volumes about Qatar Airways as an airline. The premium seat and upgraded dining are wonderful, but the hospitality runs throughout the entire aircraft — and that’s something you can’t always say.

Final Thoughts: The Worst Best Decision

Six hours in business class on Qatar Airways changed us.

Even without Qsuite, the comfort, service, dining, and attention to detail were exceptional. Would I love to try Qsuite next time? Of course. But this non-Qsuite A350 experience proved that Qatar’s standard product is still one of the strongest in the industry.

The only downside?
Now we’ve tasted business class… and there’s no going back.
